Snow removal - my leases say the tenants are responsible for snow removal so I'm protected if someone gets hurt, right?
Unfortunately, no. According to a 2010 court decision, the landlord must use "reasonable care" to remove hazards caused by ice and snow. If someone is injured at your property because of an accumulation of ice and snow, you are liable. This decision reversed 125 years of legal precedent that removed any liability on the landlord from injuries caused by 'natural accumulation'. Read the full case report here.
